PROBAS - The Property Buyers’ Association, the members of which work in the residential property market, and are committed to the highest levels of ethical practice, transparency and consumer protection, in the hopes of reassuring legislators, the Government, media and consumers of the probity of bona fide companies operation in the market.

About PROBAS

The Property Buyers Association (‘PROBAS’) was established in 2007, in recognition of the need for high ethical, moral and professional standards within the industry, and increased levels of consumer protection.

PROBAS aims to give customers and potential clients the confidence they require - that they are dealing with a reputable member company with appropriate consumer protection policies in place.

All member organisations are required to operate with the highest levels of integrity, transparency and openness in all their dealings with customers and potential clients.

All employees and associates of member organisations are required to be carefully vetted, including credit and Criminal Records Bureau checks.

PROBAS welcomes and supports the various consumer groups (including Shelter, the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Council of Mortgage Lenders) who are campaigning for FSA regulation of the industry and statutory protection for consumers.

Whilst awaiting regulation, PROBAS members will adopt best practice procedures in line with the FSA principles of ‘Treating Customers Fairly’ including;

  • Adhering to the PROBAS Code of Practice
  • Providing ‘Key Facts Illustrations’ with all transactions
  • Providing literature in plain English
  • Establishing and actively promoting an Independent Complaints Procedure
  • Ensuring that consumers have separate legal representation

Over 200 companies have registered their interest in joining the association. This clearly demonstrates the awareness within industry of the need to operate to the highest possible standards, and provide reassurance and protection to all customers and potential clients.
